commentary

1. The name Candidus occurs frequently in the tablets, see Tab.Vindol.II, Index II, 581.c.2, 576.2, 648.ii.6, 717.i.1 and 746.2.

Margin. The possibility is worth raising that this may be a date; cf. perhaps Appendix, 242 and Tab.Luguval. 50.

Back. 301 is a letter to Candidus, a slave of Genialis, but the tops of the letters visible after Ca]ṇḍịḍ[o do not suit Flaui(i), Genialis or seruo.
